What is GPX?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is an open XML format for storing routes, tracks, and waypoints. Most GPS devices, fitness apps (Garmin, Strava), and map apps (OruxMaps, Locus) can import and export GPX files. It is the most widely supported GPS file format.

Is the converter free?

New accounts receive a small number of free credits to try the converter — no credit card required to sign up. Each conversion uses one credit. When you run out, you can purchase more from the pricing page. Credits never expire. The format conversion tools under /tools and the GPX viewer are completely free with no credits needed.

Why do I need to sign in to convert?

Signing in with Google lets us fetch the full route from Google Maps on your behalf — without it we cannot access the detailed waypoint data. Sign-in also tracks your credit balance so each successful conversion deducts one credit. Your route data can be deleted from your account after you download the GPX file.

Do you support short URLs like maps.app.goo.gl?

Yes. We accept both full Google Maps URLs and short links (e.g. maps.app.goo.gl), as long as the link points to a directions route. The URL must contain /dir/ in the path after expansion.

What is the difference between track and route mode?

Track mode writes a dense path along the road geometry from Google Directions — what most GPS apps and planning tools need to show a line on the roadway. Route mode writes only key turn points for a smaller file; many planners connect those points with straight lines. Long Track files can be large — use the free GPX Simplify tool under Format tools to compress them without uploading.

How do I use the GPX file on Android?

Download the GPX file to your Android device, then open it in OruxMaps, Locus Map, or a similar GPS navigation app using the app's "Import" function. Use our Android GPX page for a flow pre-set to track format.
