Turn any Google Maps route into a GPX file

Paste a Maps directions link, choose track or waypoint format, and download a GPX file compatible with Garmin, OruxMaps, Xcode, and Pokemon GO.

Multi-stop routes, not just A to B Track or timestamped waypoint format Short links (maps.app.goo.gl) work too
Google Maps to GPX conversion

Accepts full or short URLs (e.g. maps.app.goo.gl). Must be a directions route link containing /dir/.

Why convert Google Maps to GPX?

Google Maps only gives you a link. Most GPS devices and apps need a file.

One-click conversion

Paste a Google Maps directions URL and get a GPX file in seconds. No desktop software, no plugins, no installs.

Works on every device

Track format for Android apps like OruxMaps and Locus Map. Waypoint format for iPhone, Xcode, and Pokemon GO route tools.

Private by design

Conversion runs on our server only when you sign in. You can delete your route data yourself after the GPX file is generated.

How it works

Three steps from Maps link to GPX file.

1

Paste your link

Copy a Google Maps directions URL from any browser or app. Both full URLs and short maps.app.goo.gl links work.

2

Sign in and convert

Sign in with Google so we can fetch the route. Choose track or waypoint format, then convert.

3

Download and use

Open the GPX file in OruxMaps, Garmin, Xcode, Pokemon GO tools, or any app that accepts GPX.

No manual selection

Auto-detect travel mode

Paste a Google Maps directions link and the tool automatically reads the route's travel mode — walking, cycling, driving, or transit — from the URL. No need to choose it yourself.

Multiple route options

Google Maps often shows several alternative routes. The tool lists all of them so you can select which route to convert to GPX before downloading.

Full path · Best for walking & cycling

Track format

Export a continuous line of GPS points that follows the full path. Ideal for walking and cycling navigation in apps like OruxMaps, Locus Map, and Garmin devices.

Route format: key waypoints for driving
Key waypoints · Best for driving

Route format

Export only the key waypoints for a lighter file. Best for driving navigation and for Xcode location simulation when you need discrete points instead of a full track.

Supported formats

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the primary output — an open XML standard for tracks and waypoints supported by Garmin, Strava, OruxMaps, Locus Map, Komoot, and virtually every GPS device and app.

Need a different format? The format conversion tools let you convert between GPX, KML (Google Earth), TCX (Garmin Training Center), and FIT (Garmin binary). All conversion runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is GPX?
GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is an open XML format for storing routes, tracks, and waypoints. Most GPS devices, fitness apps (Garmin, Strava), and map apps (OruxMaps, Locus) can import and export GPX files. It is the most widely supported GPS file format.
Is the converter free?
New accounts receive a small number of free credits to try the converter — no credit card required to sign up. Each conversion uses one credit. When you run out, you can purchase more from the pricing page. Credits never expire. The format conversion tools under /tools and the GPX viewer are completely free with no credits needed.
Why do I need to sign in to convert?
Signing in with Google lets us fetch the full route from Google Maps on your behalf — without it we cannot access the detailed waypoint data. Sign-in also tracks your credit balance so each successful conversion deducts one credit. Your route data can be deleted from your account after you download the GPX file.
Do you support short URLs like maps.app.goo.gl?
Yes. We accept both full Google Maps URLs and short links (e.g. maps.app.goo.gl), as long as the link points to a directions route. The URL must contain /dir/ in the path after expansion.
What is the difference between track and waypoint mode?
Track mode outputs a continuous path of GPS points, which is what Android map apps and Garmin devices expect. Waypoint mode outputs discrete named points. Some waypoint modes add timestamps, which is required for iPhone location simulation in Xcode and some Pokemon GO route tools.
How do I use the GPX file on Android?
Download the GPX file to your Android device, then open it in OruxMaps, Locus Map, or a similar GPS navigation app using the app's "Import" function. Use our Android GPX page for a flow pre-set to track format.
